Mrs. Lori Scanlon
I am from Philadelphia, Missouri which is a small rural town close to Hannibal, the home of Mark Twain. I have been in Columbia the past three decades where my husband and I have raised our family. I love all that this community has to offer; Columbia Public Schools provided an excellent education to my four children.
Upon graduating from Marion County RII School, I attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and completed my bachelor’s degree in Clothing and Textiles/Fashion Merchandising. I started my career in retail management and soon found my way back into academia at Truman State, Kirksville where I completed my Family and Consumer Sciences teaching degree. I taught 3 years in Moberly before coming to Columbia 31 years ago. While in Columbia, I have completed my master’s degree at MU and have taught at Oakland Jr. High and Jefferson Jr. High. This is my 26th year teaching Family and Consumer Sciences at Gentry Middle School. Teaching FACS is very gratifying as I get to teach life skills to empower young people who can use these the rest of their life. FACS combines my passions for cooking, sewing/crafting, child development, and design with my love of kids and education.
I am proud to be the wife of Jim Scanlon (Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Coach and retired Rock Bridge PE teacher) and together we have four children: Brennan, Blair, Stewart, and Sarah. Our children are all married and they have blessed us with eight grandchildren: Brekyn, Braylee, Brynn, Kallie, Karoline, Kenzie, Wenneker, and William are the greatest JOY. I enjoy spending time with the grandchildren, mowing our large lawn, driving the tractor, listening to live music, crafting/sewing, cooking, and gardening.
