My wife, Julie, and I have lived in Columbia for 11 years. We have two boys, Ben (8) and Sam (2). I grew up in O’Fallon, IL and graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. I received a Masters in Education from the University of Missouri. This summer I have begun course work for my doctoral degree from the University of Missouri. Before coming to Smithton I was a 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Southern Boone Middle School and taught high school at Russellville and St. Louis Public Schools.

I am excited about this opportunity to serve as principal at Smithton. Since I started here it has felt like home. We have a dedicated staff that comes to school each day to make sure that Smithton is a positive environment where our students feel welcome and can work towards excellence. They have high expectations for all students and are tireless in their efforts to make sure they help our students meet those expectations. They are continually working to improve and push each other to help make Smithton great. Our students work everyday to be their best and constantly impress and inspire me. It is impossible not to push yourself when you see the great things they are doing inside and outside of the classroom.

My high school principal greeted each student in front of school in the morning and made the rounds of the cafeteria during lunch. He made us feel important and that we belonged. As I get ready for the upcoming school year my goal is to do the same for the students of Smithton. I will work to make sure that each and everyone of them knows that they are an important part of our school and that they belong at Smithton. We are a diverse school and that makes us a great school. I can’t wait for August 15th so that we can get the school year started.

As we prepare for the school year I will be sending out weekly newsletters with information about Smithton and some of our programs for the 2017-2018 school year. I want to make sure that our families are informed and feel that they have all the information the need to help their students be successful. If I am leaving something out or your have questions please contact me.
