Board of Education Candidate Filing Procedures

  • The Columbia Public School District encourages qualified persons interested in running for a position on the School Board to file to be a candidate in the April 5, 2022, election. There are two positions available with three-year terms. Interested persons may file at the office of the Board of Education Secretary at the Neil C. Aslin Administration Building, 1818 West Worley Street, Columbia, Missouri.

    Candidate Filing opens: December 7, 2021 at 8:00 a.m.

    Candidate Filing closes: December 28, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. 

    Filing on December 7, 2021, is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Filing on December 8-28, 2021, is by appointment only. Contact Board of Education Secretary, Tracy Davenport, at 573- 214-3416 or tdavenport@cpsk12.org to make an appointment.

    Candidates may obtain the official candidate filing packet of forms and instructions in advance from the Board of Education Secretary.

    Except for the first and last day of filing, filing will not occur on days the school district’s central offices are closed due to inclement weather or other health-related reasons. The District may not open even on the first and last day of filing if weather conditions make it unsafe for school staff to travel. Filing will also not occur on the following holidays and breaks: December 23-27, 2021. Candidates must wear masks and observe District infection control rules in force at the time of filing.

    Candidates will be listed on the ballot in the order of filing, except that for candidates who file a declaration of candidacy by 4:00 p.m. on December 7, the order will be determined by random drawing. The names of those filing on December 7 will be listed in ascending order of the numbers drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on later dates.
