Board of Education Candidate Filing Procedures

  • On Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at 8:00 a.m., the Columbia Public School District will begin accepting declarations of candidacy from anyone interested in running for one of two Board of Education director positions that will become available in April 2019. Two directors will each serve a three-year term.  Filing will end on January 15, 2019, at 5:00 p.m.

    Persons interested in candidacy in the April 2, 2019, election must file in person at the office of the Board of Education Secretary at the Neil C. Aslin Administration Building, 1818 West Worley Street, Columbia, Missouri. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Except for the first and last day of filing, filing will not occur on days that the Administration Building is closed due to inclement weather.  Filing will also not occur on the following holidays and breaks:  December 24-31, 2018, and January 1, 2019.

    Candidates will be listed on the ballot in the order of filing, except that for candidates who file a declaration of candidacy by 4:30 p.m. on December 11, the order will be determined by random drawing.  The names of those filing on December 11 will be listed in ascending order of the numbers drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on later dates.

    Tuesday, January 15: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    December 24 - 31, 2018 and January 1, 2019

    Filing is also closed on inclement weather days when the Administrative offices are closed.
