Board of Education Candidate Filing Procedures
On Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at 8:00 a.m., the Columbia Public School District will begin accepting declarations of candidacy from anyone interested in running for one of three Board of Education director positions that will become available in April 2020. Three directors will each serve a three-year term. Filing will end on January 21, 2020, at 5:00 p.m.
Persons interested in candidacy in the April 7, 2020, election must file in person at the office of the Board of Education Secretary at the Neil C. Aslin Administration Building, 1818 West Worley Street, Columbia, Missouri. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Except for the first and last day of filing, filing will not occur on days when schools are closed due to inclement weather even if the Administration Building offices are open. Filing will also not occur on the following holidays and breaks: December 23-31, 2019, January 1-2, 2020 and January 20, 2020.
Candidates will be listed on the ballot in the order of filing, except that for candidates who file a declaration of candidacy by 4:00 p.m. on December 17, the order will be determined by random drawing. The names of those filing on December 17 will be listed in ascending order of the numbers drawn and ahead of the names of candidates filing on later dates.
