Career and Technical Resource Educator

  • Greetings!  My name is Nicole Overeem, and I work as a resource educator (or CTRE) with the Columbia Area Career Center (CACC).  I am usually at Battle High School, and I support students taking the 19 different CACC classes currently being taught from the BHS campus this semester.  I also work with students who attend classes being taught from the CACC campus.

I am entering my 22nd year of teaching, but this is my fifth year at Battle with the CACC; previously, I taught English and Special Education, and have taught at Hickman High School and Smithton Middle School.  I have a Master’s in Teaching from Columbia College, and am certificated in Special Education and English 9-12.  I’ve lived in Columbia for 31 years, but have also lived in Oklahoma and California.

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know just a few of the things I do as CTRE to help students have a successful school year in their Career Center class(es).

    • Support teachers during in-person and remote instruction when requested.
    • Assist teachers with recording any lab presentations when requested.
    • Monitor class assignments, assessments, and individual student grades.
    • Support students from lab-based courses with organization and assessment preparation.
    • Contact parents, as needed, several times throughout year to report areas of potential concern as well as areas of progress.
    • Proctor and provide test accommodations for individual and small groups of students – including OSHA testing.
    • Relay the IEP and 504 needs of your child to his/her Career Center teacher(s).
    • Communicate with counselors and IEP case managers regarding enrollment and scheduling.
    • Attend IEP and 504 meetings when invited.
    • Conference with students during enrollment about career interests, elective classes, and CACC classes.
    • Occasionally substitute teach for any of our CACC teachers located at BHS.

If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s CACC experience, please give me a call at (573) 214-3300.  The best time to reach me is between 8:30 and 8:50 or 4:05 and 4:15. You may also email me any time at  I hope to help make this school year a great year.  With all of us working together, I know it will happen!
