HICKMAN GRADUATION 2021: WHERE & WHEN
Place: Mizzou Arena (1 Champions Drive, Columbia, MO)
Date: May 22, 2021
A-K Seniors arrive at Mizzou Arena at 8:15 AM, Ceremony begins at 9:00 AM
L-Z Seniors arrive at Mizzou Arena at 11:30 AM, Ceremony begins at 12:15 PM
Doors open one hour prior to each ceremony. Graduates should plan to arrive no later than 45 minutes before the ceremony begins. STUDENTS ENTER MIZZOU ARENA THROUGH THE SOUTH BUILDING ENTRANCE IN LOT P. This allows time to be checked in and pre-seated. Participation in Commencement is a formal ceremony and not a pep assembly or party. Students should conduct themselves in a respectful manner, similar to an honors ceremony or church service.
ATTIRE FOR GRADUATION
All participating graduates must wear a cap & gown, medallion, and mask. Each graduate will receive and wear a custom Hickman face mask that matches the cap and gown!
How is the cap and gown to be worn during Commencement? The cap is to be worn square on the head and cannot be decorated in any fashion other than the tassel. You will NOT be allowed to wear a decorated cap. Nothing should be on the gown, i.e., pins, broaches, boutonnieres, or necklaces. Gowns should be allowed to hang for a few days to remove wrinkles. If it is still necessary to press your gown, use a cool iron. A hot iron will burn a hole in the material.
This is a formal event and formal attire is required. Shorts, tennis shoes, and jeans are not allowed. Simply stated, this is dress-up time! If you have any questions concerning appropriate attire or if this is a financial burden for your family, please see an administrator before school ends on Friday, May 14.
Specifics for Clothing: collared dress shirt, dress slacks, and necktie. Coats are not necessary but may be worn if you desire; dress, nice pants or top, dress shoes or dressy sandals. No flip flops, no face paint.
- If you ORDERED AND PAID for your CAP AND GOWN, but did not pick it up, it is in the Hickman East Office.
- If you have NOT ordered a CAP AND GOWN AND plan on attending Graduation, you will need to go online and order AT thegraduationcenter.com or call Jostens at 573-442-2855.
- If you are NOT planning on participating in graduation ceremony, please notify Mrs. Sabulsky at email@example.com
GUESTS & TICKETS FOR GRADUATION
Each graduate will receive 6 tickets for their ceremony, and all guests age 3 and older must have a ticket.
Under 3 is considered a lap child. Note: Graduates and guests must wear face coverings at all times and follow Show Me Renewal guidelines.
Each ticket will be printed with the date, time, location, name of ceremony, section, row, and seat number. The tickets for a graduate’s guests correlate with a specific pod (a group of six assigned seats). Pods will be socially distanced throughout event arenas. Guests will sit in their assigned seats within the pod. If a graduate does not fill all of the seats in their pod, the additional seats will be left empty. Tickets may not be shared.
Each graduate will be able to pick up their tickets from Hickman High School. We will begin handing out the graduation tickets on THURSDAY, MAY 13 in the Commons during lunch shifts. If you are virtual, you can come during that time OR pick them up in the WEST OFFICE BETWEEN 9:00 - 10:30 AM & 1:00 - 4:30PM.
ADA Seating Accommodations:
Will you need Wheelchair accessible?
Limited mobility/limited stairs?
Note: due to social distancing requirements, accessible seating may be more limited. Those who request accessible tickets fraudulently - without a party-member with an accessibility need - may be relocated or removed from the event.
WHERE TO PARK
Free parking is available for commencement guests in the Hearnes Center parking lots and in Lot P of Mizzou Arena
From the south: Take Providence Road to Mick Deaver Drive and turn left into Lot P (south of Mizzou Arena). From the east: Take Stadium Boulevard to Champions Drive. From the north or west: Take Providence Road to Mick Deaver Memorial Drive and turn left into Lot P (south of Mizzou Arena) or take Stadium to Mick Deaver Memorial Drive and turn on Champions Drive. STUDENTS ENTER MIZZOU ARENA THROUGH THE SOUTH BUILDING ENTRANCE IN LOT P. Parents/guests can enter there or through the North Plaza entrance.
Graduates will have the opportunity to have their named called and walk across a designated space. Due to COVID-19 considerations, ceremonies will not feature a raised platform. Students will receive their diploma cover when they walk across the designated space. Diplomas will be mailed to all graduates.
We ask that all guests refrain from shouting, whistling, or clapping during the reading of your name. Also, noisemakers (ex. air horns) are not allowed, and will be confiscated immediately. The university forbids such items in the arena. It is important that each student’s name be heard as part of celebrating the accomplishment of graduating from Hickman and it is unfair when a distraction keeps parents and loved ones from hearing their student's name read. Please discuss this issue with all of your guests prior to the ceremony. Your classmates and their parents and guests will appreciate it!
When and where can my guests take pictures or videotape? Picture taking and videotaping before and after Commencement is welcomed outside of Mizzou Arena. However, we ask that during the graduation exercise all guests stay at their seats. If they would like to take pictures or video from that vantage point, it is permissible. Guests will not be able to come to the floor area during the Commencement exercise
What photography services are available? Graduation is photographed by GRADIMAGES. GRADIMAGES will take several formal pictures and you will be able to access these a few days after graduation at www.gradimages.com. You will also receive a mailing with your proofs to order.
Every ceremony will be livestreamed and recorded for guests and family members who are not able to attend. We will send out the link to the CPS ceremonies.
FACE COVERINGS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING REQUIREMENTS
Face coverings are required for all guests age 10 and older and must be worn during the entire event. Face coverings must be made of cloth or other permeable material and must cover both the mouth and nose. Face shields and face masks with vents/exhalation valves do not meet Show Me Renewal face covering requirements. All guest pods are required to remain at least 6 feet apart from other pods during the event.
Much thought and planning has been dedicated to offer safe in-person commencement ceremonies. Graduates and their guests must wear face coverings at all times and remain socially distant from other parties. Here are a few additional safety measures you can expect:
Events will not exceed 75 minutes in order to allow time for disinfecting graduate seating areas between ceremonies.
Guests may pick up sanitizing wipes at the entrance of the building to disinfect their seats.
No stage will be used in order to allow social distancing among the presenters/guests.
There will be no processional — graduates will enter and go to their assigned seat, which will be socially distanced.
Graduates may not approach the presenters/guests to shake hands or otherwise receive congratulations.
There will be no “roaming” during the ceremony — all guests and members of the media must stay in their assigned seat at all times.
