    Bayard Rustin

    The March on Washington in August of 1963, as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, was the “greatest demonstration for freedom” in American history.  The man who organized and strategized the march behind the scenes was Bayard Rustin.  As man who had controversial ties to communism, he was considered too much of a liability to be on the front lines of the movement.  However, he was considered one of the most brilliant minds and served his community while pushing for more jobs and better wages.
