Safe Crisis Management
Safe Crisis Management (SCM) is a comprehensive crisis management system that also focuses on the prevention of restraint/safety intervention. Columbia Public Schools has used SCM for over 10 years as a training model and district-wide system to maintain the safety of our students. This program recognizes and supports the use of positive interventions and is committed to individual safety and emergency safety physical intervention reduction. We currently have six SCM certified trainers in the district that have trained over 200 of our current faculty and staff to provide a continuum of interventions that are all based on best practice guidelines, consistent with professional standards and based on the principle of "Lease Restrictive Alternative". The least restrict approach is using the least amount of restriction necessary to manage behavior that is "harmful to self or others".
