• 2021-22 New Educator Orientation FAQs

    When is New Educator Orientation?

    New Educator Orientation (NEO) will take place August 9-13, 2021.  

    What time is New Educator Orientation?

    • Monday, August 9 and Tuesday, August 10 orientation has additional sessions for K-5 Elementary Educators. 
      • August 9:   Curricular Sessions
      • August 10: Curricular Sessions
    • Tuesday, August 10 orientation has additional sessions for Preschool and Early Childhood Special Education educators. 
    • Wednesday, August 11 will kick off with the New Educator Welcome by district leaders from 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM.  Breakfast (Tentatively planned due to COVID) will be served. We strongly encourage you to arrive early for best parking options.  Sessions will begin promptly at 9:00 AM following breakfast and will conclude by 4:00 PM.
    • Thursday, August 12 orientation will begin at 8:00 AM and end at 4:00 PM.  Check the schedule for session times and locations.  
    • Friday, August 13 is dedicated to building orientations and will begin at 8:00 AM and end at 11:30 AM.  

    Where is New Educator Orientation?
    NEO format will be determined Summer 2021 if the sessions are Virtual or In-Person

    Do I have to stay the whole time?
    All new teachers are to stay for all sessions to be fully prepared for their teaching responsibilities, unless, in unique situations a Curriculum Coordinator has given you an alternate schedule.

    Will breakfast and lunch be provided?
    Breakfast and lunch (tentative) will be provided on Wednesday, August 11.  Breakfast and lunch (tentative) will not be provided by the District on August 9, August 10, August 12, or August 13.

    Is there a dress code?
    Casual business attire. 

    What topics will be covered at New Educator Orientation?
    New Educator Orientation covers a wide-range of topics.  

    Will I be paid for attending New Educator Orientation?
    Yes.  Educators are paid $27 to attend the training sessions.  No payment is given for breaks or meals.

    What should I bring to New Educator Orientation?
    You are required to bring your CPS district provided device.  Many participants find it helpful to bring a writing instrument and paper. 

    Will there be child care?
    No, child care will not be provided.

    I am a veteran teacher from a different district.  Do I need to attend New Educator Orientation?
    Yes.  Though you are not new to teaching, you are new to CPS and we want to make sure you have all the information you need to be successful in our district.  Sessions are designed to be beneficial to both new and veteran teachers.
