Welcome to Marsha Tyson's page!
Marsha Tyson has been a Physics 1 and Honors Physics 1 teacher since 1997. She received both her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Science Education at the University of Missouri. During her career, she has achieved National Board Certification, and in 2005 was named a Professional Development Classroom Teacher. Ms. Tyson has a passion for her content and enjoys participating in various workshops to bring current information to the classroom. She likes to challenge her students while offering them support. Formally an Oakland Eagle, she is proud to now be a part of the legacy of Muriel Williams Battle. Go Spartans!
Ms. Tyson has been nominated for several awards. She was nominated by faculty for CCTA Teacher of the Year in 2003, nominated by faculty for CPS Teacher of the Year 1998, 1999, 2001 and 2006. In 2009, she was recognized as the Science Teacher of Missouri. In 2010, she was named the Columbia Public Schools Junior High Teacher of the Year and was awarded the prestigious national award-Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
Outside of the classroom, Ms. Tyson is the Science Department Chair and will be happy to discuss the Battle Science Course Offerings. She assists with Science Club and is always looking for new participants. Check out the BHS-Science Club on Schoology.
