     FREE English as Second Language Classes!

    Students interested in attending Adult English classes must come to one of the below registration sessions:

      General Information

    The Adult Learning Center has served adults in the Mid-Missouri area since 1978. The ALC has class sites at the Family Impact Center (105 E Ash, Columbia) and Columbia Area Career Center (4203 S Providence, Columbia).

    The ALC provides services and instruction in English Language Learning (ELL) with the purpose of assisting adults in one or more of the following areas:

    • Become proficient in English language skills for non-native English speakers
    • Instruction designed to help individuals of limited English proficiency achieve competence in the English language.
    • Teach workplace skills
    • Community resource information through topical workshops and field trips/community outings
    • Promotes American citizenship through civics and language instruction

    English classes are available during the day at 9:00-11:30 am, 12:00-2:30 pm and at night 6:00-8:30 pm for all levels of ELL students.

    The ALC is currently seeking volunteers interested in donating their time helping ELL students learn English. If interested, please contact Elaine at
