• Welcome to Orchestra!
My name is Alison Schmidt, and this is my 7th year teaching with Columbia Public Schools! This is also my 7th year teaching at Jefferson Middle School, and my third year teaching at Rock Bridge High School!

I am originally from Kentucky, but moved to Missouri to attend school at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau.  After graduation in 2009 with a Bachelor of Music Education degree, I moved back to Kentucky, did some substitute teaching, worked in retail some more, and applied for lots of teaching jobs.

From August-December 2010, I taught music and violin at Harrow International School in Beijing, China. I taught students from countries all over the world, including China, Japan, United States, Scotland, Ireland, Russia, Thailand, Australia, and Malaysia, just to name a few! It was a very exciting and eye-opening experience that prepared me for anything and everything.

In 2011, after moving back to the U.S. (in Kentucky, once again), I got a job working with toddlers at a daycare. I LOVED it! However, I still was not teaching music. While working there, I kept searching for that music career! After dozens of applications and resumes were sent out, I finally got a call from CPS!  I was so excited to be going back to Missouri.

I moved to Columbia in August 2011 to begin my new job as a  middle school orchestra director.  I'm still here, and I love it. Columbia is far from my old Kentucky home, but I think of Columbia as my second home.  I have met some amazing and talented people, and I could not be more excited to continue this wonderful opportunity.

It is so exciting to continue getting to know all the wonderful young musicians that walk through those doors every year!
