School Visits

Since 1994, Board of Education members have been assigned to school buildings. Assignments help the seven board members, who are volunteers, to cover more than 40 buildings and programs.  Assignment to a building is different than being the board member who “represents” that building, as all board members are elected at-large and obligated to represent the entire district when making decisions. Similarly, board members cannot intervene in a matter that is the responsibility of building or central office staff.

Some ways board members might support their assigned buildings are to attend assemblies, PTA/PTO meetings, classroom events, athletic games and more. By interacting with students, families and staff at buildings, board members can enjoy unique school communities while serving CPS.
