Candidate Filing Procedures

FILING PROCEDURES FOR

BOARD OF EDUCATION ELECTION

The Columbia Public School District encourages qualified persons interested in running for a position on the School Board to file to be a candidate in the April 8, 2025, election.  There are two positions available with three-year terms.  Interested persons may file at the office of the Board of Education Secretary at the Neil C. Aslin Administration Building, 1818 West Worley Street, Columbia, Missouri. 

Candidates may obtain the official candidate filing packet of forms and instructions in advance from the Board of Education Secretary.

Candidate filing dates are as follows:

            Candidate Filing opens:  December 10, 2024 at 8:00 a.m.

            Candidate Filing closes:  December 31, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

 

Filing on December 10, 2024, is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. without appointment. Filing for the remaining filing period will be accepted during regular Aslin Administration Building business hours by appointment.  Contact Board of Education Secretary, Noël McDonald, at 573-214-3416 or nmcdonald@cpsk12.org to make an appointment.

Filings will not be accepted December 24, 25, and 26 due to District Holiday closure.

On the last day of the filing period, December 31, 2024, the District will accept filing by appointment prior to 3:00 p.m.; walk-ins will be welcomed from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. It is recommended that candidates filing on the last day should arrive by 4:30 p.m. to ensure the filing process is completed by the 5:00 p.m. deadline.

Candidate names filed on December 10 will be placed on the ballot by random drawing. Those names will be listed by lowest to highest number drawn. Candidates filing after December 10 will be listed on the ballot in the order of filing.
