  • Columbia Public Schools closed until April 27

    After careful consideration and discussions with our local and state partners, and with the March 24 issuance of a Stay at Home order from the City of Columbia, Columbia Public Schools school buildings will remain closed to students and in-person classes. At this time, we plan to reopen on Monday, April 27. We will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our plans as necessary.

  • Columbia Fund for Academic Excellence award winners

    Seven outstanding CPS educators are the recipients of this prestigious honor, which has been awarded to exemplary educators annually since it began in the 1979-80 school year through the work of Ray and Jeanne Lewis.

  • Elementary gifted education principal announced

    Kristen Palmer will be recommended to the Columbia Baord of Education to become the principal of elementary gifted education services for the 2020-21 school year. Palmer will replace current elementary gifted services coordinator Terry Gaines, who previously announced her retirement.

  • Gentry Middle School principal announced

    Josh Johnson will be recommended to the Columbia Board of Education to become the principal at Gentry Middle School for the 2020-21 school year. Johnson will replace current Principal Fairouz Bishara, who previously announced she has accepted a position in another school district out of state for next school year. Johnson is currently an assistant principal at Battle High School.

  • National History Day regional contest results

    CPS was well represented at the recent Central Missouri National History Day contest, with 13 students moving on to the state contest in April. A delegate clinic for those students going on to the state contest will be held on March 12 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Columbia City Hall.

  • CPS students qualify for FBLA state competition

    The Future Business Leaders of America District 5 Leadership Competition was held in Moberly on February 7. More than 465 students from 22 school districts competed, including students from Battle High School, Hickman High School, and Columbia Area Career Center (Rock Bridge High School) FBLA chapters. Here are the results.

    The last session of Parent-Community University scheduled for April 2 has been canceled. Parent-Community University is an opportunity for our K-12 parents and community members to learn more about the programs, supports, and long-range planning of Columbia Public Schools.
