Columbia Public Schools believes nothing is more important in building trust and support between a school district and the public it serves than the quality of a district's communications. The process of communicating with all audiences involves listening as well as conveying information. Open communication with the district's students, parents, employees, patrons and the public in general is essential for the school district to operate effectively. Columbia Public Schools is committed to maintaining a systematic effort to communicate with the public using available, effective strategies and mediums.

Columbia Public Schools’ Community Relations department is responsible for the development and implementation of the district’s strategic communication plan, including district public and media relations, internal and external communications, the district website, district publications, community engagement events and special events.  The department also serves as a liaison between the community and community organizations and the school district.
