Stop the Bleed

To strengthen our preparedness for medical emergencies, our district has implemented a new protocol in alignment with Missouri Senate Bill 68 (SB68) and the national Stop the Bleed awareness campaign. This proactive approach ensures our schools are equipped with the tools and training needed to respond quickly and effectively to severe bleeding incidents.

To meet state requirements and to keep our students safe, we have taken the following steps:

Bleeding Control Kits
Bleeding control kits have been placed in all AED cabinets, ensuring they are readily accessible throughout each school. These kits include critical supplies such as tourniquets, bleeding control bandages, and gloves.

Staff Training
Our Health Services staff participate in annual, comprehensive training on the proper use of these kits and life-saving bleeding control techniques. This training emphasizes three key actions:

• Applying direct pressure to a wound
• Packing a wound
• Applying a tourniquet when necessary

Established Protocols
We have developed a clear, district-wide protocol for responding to traumatic blood loss, helping ensure a coordinated and timely response during emergencies.
