Medical Benefits for CPS Employees

To view or change benefit elections, current employees need to access the online portal through BenefitFocus. The Benefitfocus app is located in the CPS portal.   The District’s medical plan is administered by UMR. The District has contracted with UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus, a preferred provider organization (PPO), to provide services to employees at a higher level of benefit. Make sure you confirm the doctor you are seeing is a UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus provider.    The links below highlight the benefits available through Columbia Public School District’s medical plan, subject to certain exclusions and limitations. If you have questions, contact Employee Benefits located in Business Services at 1818 W. Worley or at 214-3710.

How to find a UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus Provider-Once on the UMR website, select "Find a Provider"

Open Enrollment - If the employee fails to enroll dependents as a new employee or under the qualifying event rule, dependents or part-time employees (working 30 hours or more) may be added to the medical plan during the open enrollment period (October) with an effective date of January 1st, the following year. The employee can move from one plan option to the other during open enrollment.

Adding Dependents due to birth- Employees have 31 days to make their change request via their Benefitfocus portal or by contacting a member of the Employee Benefits staff to request coverage for their newborn. There is a common misconception that newborns have coverage under the member for the first 30 days, and this is NOT TRUE with the CPS plan. There will be no coverage for the newborn under the CPS plan unless the employee takes the required steps to request the coverage within 31 days of the birth. Please contact the Employee Benefits office with any questions. Never assume the information being told to you by the provider/hospital is true for your plan.

Breast Pump Providers:

  • Contact any provider on the list below to obtain a breast pump. They will walk you through the process and submit your claim to UMR for the pump.
