How to Apply

Note: If you do not already have a teacher or substitute certificate, please attend an Edustaff workshop before applying for certification.

Classroom positions require a Missouri Teacher Certificate or a Missouri Substitute Certificate.
To apply for a substitute certificate, visit the DESE Substitute Teachers page.
Complete fingerprinting with the CPS code before applying for a DESE substitute certificate to avoid extra expenses.

Options for DESE Substitute Certificate:

36 or more college credit hours: Send official transcripts.

- For international education, review the list of approved credential evaluation agencies.
Alternative route to certification: Complete a 20-hour online substitute teacher training course.

Note: Without a certificate, you may work as a clerical or monitor substitute.

Standard Substitutes

Daily Substitute Roles Include:

Teacher: Serve as the classroom lead and manage instructional activities.
Classroom Aide: Support classroom teachers and assist with lunchroom or recess supervision.
Instructional Aide:
- Media IA: Teach media lessons.
- Pre-K IA: Co-teach alongside the classroom teacher.
- IA: May also support in-school suspension (ISS).
Paraprofessional: Support students receiving special education services (will not be left alone in charge of a class).
Building Safety and Security Aide: Assist with the weapons detection system and supervision duties (lunchroom, hallways, classrooms).
Clerical*: Provide administrative support as receptionists, attendance secretaries, principal secretaries, or media clerks.
Monitor*: Support supervision duties as a playground or lunchroom monitor.

*No certification is required for clerical and monitor roles.

Applicants would apply as a standard sub and, once fully approved, could transition to this role.
They are selected on a case-by-case basis as needed.
Openings are advertised directly to current Edustaff employees.
Work 10 or more consecutive days in one job to earn a higher pay rate.
Additional duties may include making copies, attending meetings, and contacting parents.
Building Administrators have the final say on who fills the long-term need.
An interview may be required.

Take late-notice, one-day jobs in Learning Specialist roles.
Support Special Education programs across the district.
Earn higher daily pay.
Work at least 75% of school days each month.
Work in many classrooms and schools.

Building Substitute: Works daily, primarily at one elementary or middle school, helping fill last-minute and high-need positions.
TEAM Substitute – High School: Works late-notice jobs at high schools. Must work at least 75% of school days each month.
TEAM Substitute – Learning Specialist: Works late-notice jobs in Learning Specialist (special education) roles. Must work at least 75% of school days each month.
