What Is the Grand Teton Yellowstone Adventure?
The Columbia Grand Teton Yellowstone Adventure is a summer experience for students in grades 6 through 8 in Columbia Public Schools. Students explore one of the most biologically diverse and geologically unique areas in the United States.
In partnership with Teton Science Schools, students work in small field groups led by trained staff and Columbia teachers. Students explore trails away from tourist areas and participate in daily field research, scientific study, and evening programs.
Hiking is a major part of the experience. Students should enjoy outdoor activity and be prepared for a physically active week.
Trip Cost
The anticipated cost is between $1000 and $1300, plus five hours of student community service. The final cost depends on charter bus bids.
Fees include lodging, meals, transportation, and programming. Round-trip transportation from Columbia is provided by motor coach.
Fundraising and scholarship opportunities are available.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1, Saturday
- 3:00 p.m. Check in and load bus
- 4:00 p.m. Depart Columbia
- Sack dinner at rest stop
Day 2, Sunday
- Travel
- Breakfast at Wyoming rest area
- Arrive in Jackson, Wyoming at 2:00 p.m.
- Dinner and explore town square
- Teton Science School orientation and dorm move-in
Days 3–6
- Daily breakfast at 8:00 a.m.
- Field studies including fire, glaciers, ecosystems, wildlife tracking
- Challenge hike and canoe experience
- Yellowstone National Park visit including Old Faithful
- Evening programs
Day 7, Friday
- Teton Science School closing
- Depart at 10:00 a.m.
Day 8, Saturday
- Arrive back in Columbia approximately 10:00 a.m.
Application Procedures
Registration Deadline: September 30
If more students register than available spots, families will be placed on a waitlist. If spots remain after October 3, registration will move to first-come, first-served.
Deposit
A $100 deposit is required with registration. The deposit is part of the total fee and is non-refundable if a student chooses not to attend.

Community Service Requirement
Each student must complete five hours of community service prior to the trip. Opportunities will be provided, or students may complete independent service.
Families may donate $8 per hour, $40 total, to the scholarship fund in place of community service.
