Multifactor Authentication

MFA is becoming more common in today's world. When you log into your bank or credit card website you probably already have to enter a verification code to login. Simply put…MFA adds an extra layer of security to protect your account from hackers and cyber criminals.

Multifactor requires another method of authentication. The best way to do this is to download an app that provides you a code. This app is simply a key generator that gives you a code to enter. It can be installed on your district issued iPad and is perfectly safe to install on a personal device. It doesn't track or access any other information about you. It doesn't even require internet access. We recommend the Microsoft Authenticator App. 

Google Authenticator and LastPass Authenticator have both been tested and are ok. Reach out to Technology Services about other authenticators you have before using them.

Step by step instructions to download and setup. The Authenticator App is also available in Self Service for staff with a district issued iPad/iPhone.

If you don't have a way to download and use an Authenticator App please submit a work order to helpdesk@cpsk12.org and our support team can assist you. You may be issued a token card to use for MFA.

No, once setup you can use authenticator in a weak to no signal location

Select Websites that use cloud based credentials (examples include UKG, Spedtrack, Google, and our district website). In addition, any Microsoft Cloud application like Outlook.com or Office 365 will require it.

Outlook via the client on your machine, Infinite Campus, Schoology, Classlink, & BusinessPlus are just a few examples. 

Probably not. In general most applications  will 'remember you' for a certain period of time. We can't give specific durations (it varies by application), but no, you shouldn't expect to authenticate every time. 

Yes, the authenticator app can be setup on more than one device. This means you can have it on your phone, and your iPad.

If a card is lost or stolen it can be deactivated, and you may be charged a fee to replace it.

No. Installing MFA on your personal device does not allow CPS to view or access your device.
