Derby Ridge Elementary School

Welcome to the Derby Ridge Media Center!  

• Students may visit the library from 8:00-8:20 each day or with a pass from their teacher during regular school hours.
• Students will check out books weekly by classes with their classroom teacher. Kindergartners can check out 1 book and 1st - 5th graders can check out 2 books. 
• When students bring their books back on their library day, they take them to their classroom to be collected. When a student has books overdue, he or she may not check out until those books are returned or renewed. To renew a book, the book must be present.
• Overdue notices are sent home periodically in Friday folders. While there is no fine for overdue books, if a book is lost or damaged, it must be paid for. The replacement cost of the book is quoted on the overdue notice. Please pay with exact cash or with a check made out to Columbia Public Schools and send the payment to the school in an envelope marked “Library.” Students who owe money to the library risk losing the privilege of borrowing more materials.

Scholastic Book Fairs

Two or three times a year, we host Scholastic Book Fairs. These are fundraisers that help us buy new books for the library and the classrooms at Derby Ridge. Students will not check out new library books for about 2 weeks during these times, because the book fair books block many of the shelves.
