PARTNERS IN EDUCATION – P.I.E. COMMITTEE
The Partners in Education program was founded in 1984-85 to involve business and schools in the Columbia community. We started a PIE collaboration with Columbia Regional Hospital and Oakland in 84-85. Since this time we have branched out to have four partners – Moresource, Honeywell, Naught-Naught Insurance Group and Zimmer Radio Group. These partnerships provide a sharing of time, talent and knowledge between student, faculty and staff at Oakland and employees at these businesses. Some of our partners in Education activities in the past have included:
-Career panel discussion in areas of expertise.
-Business employees helped Oakland Students develop job seeking skills during mock
-Support of Oakland Challenge program.
-One-on-one mentoring opportunities.
-Jazz band and choirs perform for Christmas and spring activities at businesses.
-Job shadowing – sharing of job skills in the various businesses.
These were just a few of the activities shared by OMS and the various businesses in the PIE program allowing the business and educational communities to become better acquainted with challenges and opportunities offered by both.
