    Mr. Drennan--Assistant Principal

I am thrilled to be the new assistant principal at Shepard and I look forward to helping our students and staff learn and grow together.

I am a product of Columbia Public Schools and I am a true believer in our leaders and educators.  As a graduate of Russell Elementary, Smithton Middle, West Junior and Rock Bridge High School, I can say with confidence that we have an exceptional school district.  I come from a long line of CPS educators and I have made it my life's work to continue their passion for this community.   My excitement for learning and supporting the achievement of all students has only strengthened over the last eleven years. During that time, I have had the privilege of working with students from kindergarten through eighth grade.  I started by student teaching in fifth grade at Grant Elementary with Matt Kuensting (a Shepard parent).  I then took a job in Marceline, Missouri teaching third grade.  My love for Columbia brought me home to teach fourth grade at Derby Ridge Elementary.  After three years, I made the transition to Gentry Middle School where I taught sixth grade Social Studies, seventh grade English, seventh grade Social Studies and AVID over a six year period.  At that point, I felt that a move to an administrative role would allow me to have a greater impact on a school.  Last year, I took over midyear as an administrator at Gentry.  This year, I have had the privilege of coming back to the elementary level and being an administrator at Alpha Hart Elementary.

I have been very fortunate to work with and learn from amazing educators and administrators. I have also learned a lot from my studies in education through my masters and specialist degree programs. I am also very lucky to have my wonderful wife Kaci support me in all of my professional endeavors.  Kaci works in Human Resources for MU Health Care. We have a little girl named Sadie who will turn two in September and a lovable mutt named Eddie.
