Mrs. Bourdeau

Pronouns: she/her/hers

I am a teacher, wife and mother of four.  I've been living in Columbia since 2018 and a part of the Oakland family since 2019! I have over 15 years of classroom experience.  I'm a  New Yorker by way of Landsthul, Germany. TAs a classroom teacher, I have a passion to help students read.  The power of storytelling shapes perspectives and realities; a proficiency in reading shapes outcome.  My goal is two fold: to ignite the love of reading in my students and to give students access to opportunity through fluency, phonics and comprehension.

In class we are writing memoirs and reading a short story from Lahiri's Interpreter of Maladies, called "When Mr. Prizada Came to Dine."  This memoir, set in Boston, chronicles Lahiri's first impactful experience of loss.  It is beautifully written with descriptive language, strong verbs and enticing dialogue.  Read "When Mr. Prizada Came to Dine" and learn about a young girl who struggles with reconciling her South Asian identity.
