Fine Arts/English: Speech and Debate
My name is Danielle Johnson, and I am the head coach and teacher of CPS Speech and Debate. I am super excited to have been trusted to pioneer this position. I have spent the last 20 years teaching classes like English, Yearbook, Oral Interpretation, and Reading Intervention at Oakland Junior High/Middle School. Though I loved those years, I was excited when I learned that I could explore the love and passion that originally drew me to teaching. I was an AVID Speech and Debate/Theater Kid growing up and became certified in speech and theater alongside English when I graduated from MU in 2000. My favorite units have always been ones that allow students to use speaking and writing skills to critically explore important societal issues. I received a PhD in Literacy in 2016, and my outside area was Communications. This job allows me to work with students (the best part of my job) while they engage with my favorite content!
