School Naming Process

In anticipation of the opening of the new elementary school in south Columbia, a committee to consider the name of the school is being formed.

Committee Formation and Application for Membership

According to Board of Education policy, the committee must include representation from multiple audiences. As such, representation has been determined to be the following:

Parents may submit names and a drawing will be held if necessary

Superintendent's Student Advisory Council

Students from the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council will provide feedback to the committee on the recommended name

Community member who resides within the school district boundaries

Community members may submit names and a drawing will be held if necessary

** Note: Individuals selected to participate in committee work may not submit school names for consideration, nor be related to a name being considered in the naming process.**

Committee name submission application deadline has passed. The Board of Education will consider a slate of committee members and formally establish the committee at its November 21 work session meeting.

Committee members will need to be available to participate in committee meetings between November 2024 and February 2025. The district goal is to have a name selected by February 2025 work session meeting.
