Click the link to the left to take a Virtual Tour of John Warner MS! Pictures have been updated as of last week so everything is current. I know you will be excited to see the interior and some of the main areas in the building. I can't wait for you to be able to see everything in person as the pictures really don't do the school justice. As soon as I am able to get into the Aslin Building I will get any JWMS apparel orders and take them to the JWMS building. Once I am able to occupy the school I will let you know when you can come pick up your orders. Thank you for your patience through this trying time. I hope you all are doing well. Email me if you have questions.
I hope everyone is doing well during this unusual time in our world. One of these days we will look back and explain to our children and grandchildren the time the "earth stood still" and everything paused for a while. I challenge all students to look deeper within yourselves, reflect, and use your time and energy for the positive. Sometimes in the fast pace of life as usual we overlook the "little things" that really have meaning and are impactful. Those little things we often take for granted and have grown to look beyond. Now, especially, the smallest things in life mean much more than they did not long ago. Life is a journey indeed. What can you do now, more than ever, to have a positive impact? Start small and close within your home and with your family. Do something for its positive value and not because you were told or asked to. Be kind to one another and always remember that things could be much worse than what they are now. Don't just count the days until we will be back to "normal" or the "new normal" but make the days count. Progress is still continuing as expected. Most interior work is complete with a few finishing touches being completed here and there. The South side parking lot by the gym (the green monster) is being paved and then the workers will redo the North side lot. It is an amazing building with incredible resources but it is up to us all to use those resources to take learning to another level. I am excited for you all to see the finished product. I know you will be impressed and thankful for the wonderful opportunities that are ahead of us. Take care of yourself and each other.
Here is a link to the RBHS Volleyball Camp flyer for this June. RBHS Head Varsity Coach Nicole Murphy is excited for JWMS student-athletes to be a part of a great tradition of excellence. I am loving the Grizzly-Bruin connection! Great things to come!
Anyone else ready for Spring? Besides warmer weather Spring means we are that much closer to completion of the building. Everything is going as scheduled and coming along wonderfully. I am excited for students and staff to be able to occupy the incredible facility and have access to the resources we will have available. We are close to finishing up our hiring of staff. Just a few more pieces of the puzzle left to take care of. We should be fully staffed by the end of March. We are going to be reaching out to feeder schools soon. Great chance to put a few names with faces. I am excited to meet some more of the JWMS Grizzly students. We are looking at (tentatively) the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to take place the week before school starts. I was able to meet with Diane Warner to go over some of the details and will post more information about upcoming tours, open houses, and events as details become more clear and finalized. I hope everyone was able to order some gear from the team store. No worries if you missed it, we will have some more opportunities as we move along. I cant wait to see JWMS gear start to pop up in the community. Have a great weekend!
Follow the link to the JWMS Team Store to satisfy your hunger for Grizzly Gear! This is an initial run and we will have other designs and options available in the future. Can't wait to see these designs popping up throughout the community.
Time is flying by! We completed a staff selection process and have most of our staff in place. We have a few hires we still need to make but things are looking great. Currently looking at hiring all of our secretarial positions within the next two weeks. We are also going to fill all of our coaching roles in that timeframe as well. Exciting things are happening for sure! I emailed students and parents our mascot and colors. I appreciate the incredibly positive response I received. Many families are excited to be a part of the JWMS Grizzlies. We have an opportunity to do some special things and I know we will make our community proud. If your child is supposed to be at John Warner next year and you or they have not received the latest email with the Grizzy Mascot Head and school color combinations please let me know and I will help get it fixed.
Happy New Year! 2020 has arrived and we are preparing for great things to come. We are a couple weeks away from our staff selection day. I spent some time recently with Taylor Drennan, John Warner Assistant Principal, to look at all of our potential teachers to think about those that would be the best fit for what we want for our students. The talent pool is incredible! We would like to get out to Jeff Middle and Gentry Middle soon to meet and greet students. I will mention that our 8th grade enrollment is currently around 145 students (due to grandfathering and students staying at current buildings). This is a one year anomaly and we will be up to 190-200 in future years. I think as we move forward more and more students will want to be a part of John Warner's first 8th grade class. I project being closer to 170 this first year once school starts. Our 6th grade should have around 190 students and our 7th grade will be about the same. I have been receiving many phone calls about our athletic teams and what we will have to offer students. We will have all of the sports teams that all other middle schools have. I am currently working with our district athletic department and Adidas to order uniforms and equipment. We have a mascot and colors and our athletic department is working to put the finishing touches on the logo. We will be able to reveal that soon after it has been completed. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. 573-214-3400 Ext. 26481
Voting for the John Warner Middle School mascot and colors has officially begun! I just sent out an email to all students who are supposed to attend JWMS. The email contains a link to a Google Form where students can vote on the mascot. Some of the most popular mascots in the country have been included but students also have the option of coming up with one not on the list. Dark green is our primary color and students will have a choice of secondary colors to go along with it. One entry per student. Also, we cannot choose a mascot already adopted by another CPS school. Students have until Friday, Dec. 13 to submit their choices.
I hope everyone is doing well in preparation for the holidays. We have made much progress in the recent weeks. First, we have an Assistant Principal candidate that will be taken to the BoE for approval. This individual is dynamic, fun, and understands the students, staff, and community which we serve. I have been meeting with potential teachers and staff and I must say that CPS has some incredible people that work with our children. Staff selection will occur in January, which gives me just enough time to meet with everyone who wants to bring some magic to JWMS. We will be setting up interviews in December for our two Professional School Counselors and will also be interviewing for our Library Media Specialist. The LMS will be in charge of our incredible Media Center, Maker Space Lab, and Instructional Lab. I envision this area being the hub of creativity and productivity. When we get back from Thanksgiving Break, we will be sending an email to all students who will be attending John Warner Middle School in 2020. Students will have input on Mascot ideas and secondary colors. Construction is moving along well. We are definitely on track for completion in early April. As soon as I am able to I will send out information about touring the completed building. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy some time with your family during the break!
