About Me - Katie Patton
Dear Hickman Families,
I would like to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Catherine Patton but I go by Katie, and I am honored to be the Dean of Students in the East Office. This is my first year at Hickman High School but I have been in education for a decade as an adjunct professor at Moberly Area Community College and a History teacher at Centralia High School. I have a Master of Arts in Military History from Norwich University, a Master of Arts in Teaching and in Educational Leadership from Columbia College. I have been in the education setting as a student, teacher, leader, and parent, which I believe provides me a unique and versatile perspective. My philosophy on education is simple: it should be fun, challenging, involves honesty, and anyone can do it. Everyone learns differently and there is not a one size fits all approach. I am here to support your child and your family as best as I can. I pride myself on being fair, honest, and trustworthy. Learning is not always easy but it is worth the time and effort.
My husband and I have five children. My oldest daughter is in the Coast Guard and recently married, so counting in the new son-in-law, I guess I should say I have six children. I also have a nine year old, a seven year old, and two three year olds, a girl and boy. We have several animals in our home as well. We love to camp, which is good because hotels for seven do not come cheap. We also love fishing, kayaking, and being outdoors in general. I personally love to read, write, scrapbook, and recently started a photography class.
I know there is much uncertainty about the upcoming year and I know I do not have all the answers but know my door is always open and I will do my best to answer all the questions you have. At the very least, I can help find the answers we need to be productive and support your child’s academic and personal success. I look forward to getting to know you and your child throughout the year. Please feel free to stop me and introduce yourself, as I’m sure I will see you at many of the Hickman activities on campus.
