Congratulations to Senior AP Artists from Battle High School and to Rock Bridge High School for placing in the 18th Annual Juried Spring Visual Art Exhibition for Area High Schools at Moberly Area Community College.
Seven Columbia Public Schools’ educators have been selected as this year’s Columbia Fund for Academic Excellence honorees. Since its inception in the 1979‐80 school year, the Columbia Fund for Academic Excellence has served to recognize more than 250 educators in the Columbia Public School District for their outstanding teaching, leadership and support for students. Each year, educators are selected from nominations submitted by parents and peers as outstanding educators.
Twenty CPS fourth and fifth graders placed in the top 10 during the recent March Mathness competition hosted by Rock Bridge High School Math Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta.
Smithton Middle School 8th grader Jiya Shetty has won the Columbia Missourian Regional Spelling Bee with the word joskin. Jiya's sister, Aanya, a student at Paxton Keeley Elementary School, came in second place. Jiya snagged the win from Aanya after nearly an hour and a half of spelling.
Battle High School Senior Amaya Daniels has earned two prestigious academic scholarships. Amaya, a CPS AVID Scholar and MAC Scholar, was awarded a QuestBridge Scholarship which provides a students who have excelled academically with a full four-year scholarship, worth over $200,000 for a matched student. Amaya has also been named a Horatio Alger Scholar. Out of 300,000 applications, Amaya was one of 106 chosen. She will receive a $25,000 scholarship and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. in 2022 to be recognized.
Hickman High School Senior Grace Gomez-Palacio is one of 16 students nationwide to earn one of scholastic writings highest honors - the Scholastic Art & Writing Award Gold Medal for her writing portfolio. In addition to the gold medal recognition for her writing portfolio, Grace has also been awarded a $10,000 scholarship. Her Creative Writing Teacher Nancy White has also been awarded a $1,000 grant to use in her classroom.
