2019 Summer BHS Family Letter

July 22, 2019

Dear Spartan Students and Families,

School is quickly approaching.  We have been busily preparing for the 2019-2020 school year.  We look forward to another great year at Battle and the positive Battle Spartan Spirit.   School begins August 15 for all students with Jump Start Day for Freshmen on August 14th from 8:55am to 1:35pm.

Please read the enclosed enrollment information carefully, as there are significant changes to our procedures for acquiring student schedules. All Columbia Public Schools high schools have moved to an on-line format for our schedule pick-up process. You will be able to complete all the necessary steps through the CPS Family Portal from the convenience of your own home!  Families who complete all the necessary steps will be able to access their students’ schedules on August 9th.

Explanation of On-Line Process  In order to access a student’s schedule by August 9, families need to provide the school district with some important registration information.

You may access the registration information by logging in to the CPS Families Portal and clicking on the icon, “9-12 Back 2 School.” Please follow the instructions in the "9-12 Back 2 School" section to complete all the items. Completion of items 2 and 3 will ensure access to the student schedule on August 9, 2019.

The CPS Families Portal is a single point of access for families to access district systems and applications including CPS digital resources, Home Access Center and more. To log in to the CPS Families Portal (http://portal.cpsfamilies.org), you will need your 6-digit Guardian ID and your password, which is the email you registered with initially with CPS. If you have forgotten your Guardian ID, you can contact Battle for assistance. For help with other issues, call the CPS Technology Services Help Desk at 573-214-3333. If you know your ID but have forgotten the password, you can reset your passport. Families new to the school district or who are registering for the first time in the Families Portal will receive two emails, one with their guardian ID and one with their temporary password once they are enrolled in Columbia Public Schools.

Back to School Connections – August 1

BHS will host a Back to School Connections event on August 1st from 2:00 to 7:00 pm. This event is for families who are unable to complete the on-line registration process from home. There will be computers available and school employees to assist in this process. Other opportunities for families at this event include bus information, food service information, health information and medication drop off, yearbooks, parking passes, activity passes, Spartan gear, and school tours.

School Pictures

Students will have their school picture taken on August 22nd and 23rd. School IDs will be provided free of charge. You should expect to receive communication via email regarding the purchase of school picture packets. Students may also pick up picture packets a few days prior to picture days.

Call to Battle

Families are encouraged to attend our Call to Battle event on Saturday, August 17th, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.  We will have games and activities for students as well as an opportunity to watch our band perform and our fall sports team scrimmages. We will have a short 30-minute Ice Cream Social/ Meet and Greet for Freshman and their parents with the administrative team and Spartan Alliance in the Commons from 5:45-6:15pm. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to meet administrators, counselors, and staff and get energized with the SPIRIT of Battle High School.

There will also be an opportunity for purchasing each of these items in the CPS Families Portal when you complete the online enrollment process.   You can also purchase them by going to http://www.cpsk12.org/onlinepay.

Open Lunch for Juniors and Seniors

Juniors and Seniors throughout CPS have the privilege to leave campus during lunch with parent permission.  Students must present their valid ID with a validation sticker to leave during lunch time.  Please fill out the form located on the back of this mailer to turn in for your open lunch validation sticker.

Back to School (Passport to Success)- Mark your calendars for our Passport to Success on August 28 from 6-8pm.  Passport to Success allows Battle families the opportunity to attend a grade level presentation, a teacher introduction session and one other session of their choosing as we welcome our families back to school.
