Early Childhood Program receives $6,500 to enhance social-emotional learning

The Columbia Public Schools Early Childhood Program received a $6,500 grant from the Columbia Metro Rotary Club to support social-emotional learning and student safety.

The grant funds will be used for activities and materials to build meaningful connections with students to increase attention spans, reduce hyperactivity, build self-esteem and facilitate language development. Some of these activities will include creating social storyboards, an illustration diagramming a sequence of events; student-made feeling buddies, to help identify and recognize feelings and manage emotions; and a multi-sensory tool to assist children with a positive start of school.

The CPS Early Childhood Program has been partnered with Columbia Metro Rotary through the Partners In Education program since 2003. The partnership focuses on improving literacy and early learning for preschool students.
