CPS students take fourth in international competition
Columbia Public Schools had a very strong showing at the 2015 Future Problem Solving International Competition. Students from Battle, Hickman, and Rock Bridge high schools collaborated to form Project Concilium. Together they worked to establish a sustainable Youth Advisory Council for the City of Columbia. They worked directly with city officials, the Youth Community Coalition, and Columbia Public Schools to provide the young people of our community a voice in local government, and to create a step-by-step model that can be implemented in other cities.
CPS students placed first in state at the Missouri Future Problem Solving competition in March, and advanced to the international competition hosted by Iowa State University in June, where they competed with thousands of students from around the world. The members of Columbia Public Schools' Future Problem Solving team finished fourth in the world at the FPS International Competition.
Contributing to the students' success were principals Kim Presko (Battle), Eric Johnson (Hickman), and Jennifer Rukstad (Rock Bridge), and gifted education specialist Matt Leuchtmann.
Members of all three comprehensive high schools plan to collaborate again during the 2015-16 school year.
