Middle school EEE students place first and second in stock market game

Two teams from Columbia Public Schools middle school EEE programs placed first and second in our region of 95 teams in the fall version of the Stock Market Game sponsored by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association. The Stock Market Game is a regular part of the EEE middle school curriculum in which students, in a real-time stock market simulation, practice skills in math, English language arts, economics, and social studies while investing a fictional $100,000 in the stock market for ten weeks. Additionally, the Stock Market Game helps them develop positive money habits and prepare the future.
The students and their teachers will be invited to a banquet in May to honor this achievement. The teachers were Gretchen Trower of Gentry Middle School and Dr. Beth Winton of Jefferson Middle School.
The winning teams are:
First place: Gentry Middle School 7th grade (earned 8.7% profit in ten weeks)
Travis Bassford, Morgan Boussad, Jared Geyer, Noah Winton
Second place: Jefferson Middle School 6th grade (earned 5.7% profit in ten weeks)
Tyler Dettmar, Will Sanders, Aaron VanDyke
