Special Services directors announced
After a thorough search and interview process, Dr. David Wilson will be recommended to the Board of Education to fill the position of Executive Director of Special Services for the 2015-16 school year. Additionally, Tori Ballew will be recommended to fill the position of Director of Special Education.
Dr. Lou Ann Tanner-Jones, Director of Special Services, and Bonnie Conley, Supervisor of Special Services, will be leaving the school district at the end of the school year. Wilson and Ballew will be taking over the leadership roles within the district's department of Special Services, which provides support for students who need special education, mental health and/or counseling services within the school district.
Dr. Wilson has fourteen years of experience with Columbia Public Schools in a variety of roles, including school psychologist, special education data coordinator, and as the assistant director of Special Services. He has been instrumental in leading the efforts with data-driver decision making, disproportionality, electronic IEP processes, assistive technology, and Medicaid. He holds a master's in educational and counseling psychology, an educational specialist degree, and a doctorate in educational leadership.
Tori Ballew has thirteen years of educational experience. She began her career teaching sixth grade social studies and special education at Southern Boone School District before becoming a special education process coordinator with Columbia Public Schools. Most recently she has been serving as the Director of Special Programs with Southern Boone School District, including special education, title programs, and gifted education. She has a master's degree in curriculum and instruction and is currently pursuing her educational leadership and
policy analysis degree.
