Boone County back-to-school health fair
The Back-to-School Health Fair, which is held every August and coordinated by the Family Impact Center, Voluntary Action Center, and the Family Health Center, helps local K-12 students prepare for the state of the new school year. Students at the fair receive free vision and hearing screenings, dental checkups, and mental health exams. They also receive free school supplies, backpacks, and haircuts.
School supplies are also available for pickup at the Voluntary Action Center after the fair. These supplies, which are for local children from low-income families, include items such as notebooks, crayons, scissors, calculators, and pencils. Different sets of supplies are available for elementary, middle, and high school. Any parent who is interested in acquiring school supplies for their children should come to the Voluntary Action Center with each child needing supplies.
This year, the Back-to-School Health Fair will be held on Saturday, August 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Family Impact Center, 105 E. Ash Street. Children must be present to receive backpacks and school supplies. Please note that children should attend with a parent. If a parent is unable to attend, please bring the parent's name and Social Security number.
If you would like to donate school supplies, or have a supply drive at your organization for this fair, call VAC at (573) 874-2273.
