Newton "Dee" Crosby of the Columbia Area Career Center has been selected as a Project Lead The Way Master Teacher. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides transformational learning experiences to K-12 students and teachers across the country through computer science, engineering, and biomedical science. Mr. Crosby has served as a PLTW teacher at the Career Center's PLTW Engineering program for four years. He joins fellow Career Center instructor David Hopkins, who is currently a PLTW Computer Science Veteran Master Teacher.
PLTW selected Mr. Crosby after a rigorous application and interview process. This year 90 teachers were selected from the more than 150 applicants to be Apprentice (first-year) Master Teachers. In 2016, the first-year Master Teachers will coach alongside a Veteran Master Teacher, before becoming Veteran Master Teachers in 2017. There are currently only 565 PLTW Master Teachers in the U.S.
