Rock Bridge student newspaper, journalists receive accolades

At the 2016 National Scholastic Press Association spring convention in Los Angeles, Bearing News took home first place in the Website Large School category of NSPA's Best of Show competition, besting top student news sites from around the world. This is the first time in school history that Bearing News has taken home a coveted "Best of Show" first place cup. The Rock earned second place in Best of Show, and Southpaw earned fifth place in Best of Show.

  • Newspaper Broadsheet 17 or More Page: No. 2, The Rock
  • Newspaper Special Edition: No. 5, Southpaw
 At the same convention, numerous Rock Bridge High School students took home awards in the Write Off contest:
  • Superior Online News Package (First place at the national level): Stephanie Kang, Abby Kempf, and Jenna Liu
  • Honorable Mention Feature Writing (Third place at national level): Nikol Slatinska
  • Honorable Mention Newspaper Layout: Grace Vance
  • Honorable Mention Graphic Design Advertising: Alice Yu
At the Columbia Scholastic Press Association conference in New York, Bearing News took home a Gold Crown, CSPA's highest possible honor, in the High School Digital News category. Bearing News was one of only six school news sites in the country to receive this award, which honors the highest level of scholastic journalism excellence.
