CPS outperforms state and national averages on SAT (Posted 10/10/16)

Columbia Public Schools students who took the SAT in 2016 continue to outperform state and national averages. Scores also increased from 2015 scores.
CPS students' 2016 average scores were 649 in critical reading, 629 in math, and 627 in writing. This compares to Missouri averages of 605 in critical reading, 608 in math, and 589 in writing. Columbia Public Schools' 2016 average scores also increased by more than 10 points in critical reading and more than 20 points in writing when compared to 2015 average scores. Scores in math remained the same as 2015 scores.
Created by the College Board, the SAT is an entrance exam used by colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. Most students take the SAT for the first time during the spring of their junior year and a second time during the fall of their senior year.
