Students perform at state music conference (posted 1/24/17)

Students from Lee Expressive Arts Elementary School and Gentry Middle School will perform at the 79th annual Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) Conference on Thursday, January 26, at Tan-Tar-A resort.
The Missouri Music Educators Association is comprised of over 3,000 music educators and music education advocates from schools across Missouri. Each year, around 200 schools audition to be selected to perform at the yearly conference. From these submissions, only 32 music ensembles from elementary, middle school, high school, or university programs are chosen to perform.
The Lee fourth and fifth grade musicians, under the direction of Elizabeth Tummons, will perform six songs representing music from around the world. The student performance will feature choral music and movement, Orff keyboard instruments, and World Drumming, under the direction of Julia Gaines and Megan Arns, from the University of Missouri School of Music.
In addition to the Lee ensemble, the Gentry Middle School eighth grade band, directed by Amber Quest, will also perform.
