We are always working to ensure that Smithton is a community that welcomes all people and helps make all people feel welcome. Our goal is that all our students know they are an important part of our school and that they belong at Smithton. We are a diverse school and that makes us a great school. We are a building that lives the value that ALL ARE WELCOME.
The transition to middle school can be hard. Typically we get to have all new families visit Smithton in the spring and those that chose can go to 6th-grade summer school. Unfortunately, we are unable to do that this year. We hope that between visits with School Counselors last week via Zoom and a welcome video from myself we can help ease the transition. Please take some time to watch this video. We know you will have questions. Please reach out to us and let us help you as you get ready for middle school.
Smithton Middle School has a strong tradition! We see students doing great things every day though living out our GRRRR Expectations! We look forward to you joining our Smithton family! Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat! Go Wildcats!!
To all incoming 5th graders: Welcome to Smithton Middle School!
As you move from your Elementary School to Middle School, below is a video that should help with that transition:
Smithton Standards of Excellence
As we move into the second semester of the 2018-19 school year, it is important to remind our students of school expectations. As the school year comes to a close in May, the following standards will be used to identify students who will be able to participate in non-academic “fun” events. All end of the year events are considered a celebration of the hard work and accomplishments of our students. The school’s administration and faculty are committed to help and support all students in meeting these expectations.
Attendance: 90% attendance rate (with possible exceptions) using the current semester data.
Discipline: No major office referrals. Chronic buddy and/or recovery room visits may also be considered.
Achievement: No failing grades on the most recent Individual Progress Report (IPR). There is an opportunity for students to bring their grade to passing prior to predetermined date of an event in order for the student to be eligible for an event.
This information will be shared with students on a regular basis. Their advisory teacher will be available to respond to student questions and support a student’s progress.
Chris Drury, Principal
Hello Smithton Family,
Since I started here it has felt like home. We have a dedicated staff that comes to school each day to make sure that Smithton is a positive environment where our students feel welcome and can work towards excellence. They have high expectations for all students and are tireless in their efforts to make sure they help our students meet those expectations. They are continually working to improve and push each other to help make Smithton great. Our students work everyday to be their best and constantly impress and inspire me.

Be prepared for admission rules to change on a game-to-game basis. The general plan is to provide each athlete with TWO admission cards. These cards will only be provided one time to each athlete and will not be replaced if lost. These cards only grant the ability to attend a game in Columbia, and paid admission may still be required in addition showing the gate worker your card.
Games outside of Columbia may have other policies and Coaches will notify parents of local rules prior to the game. If the competing teams have larger roster sizes, having two spectators per athlete may push us over our capacity limits set by the health department. If we are in danger of exceeding capacity limits then we may reduce admission to ONE spectator per athlete.
